The painting is inspired by the poem – Uncensored, written by Lanre Gbadamosi.

“My wounds hide from a crowd of people. My injuries are easily masked by a smile that’s not real. In other words, I’m alone to deal with my pain. Those that don’t understand believe it’s ordinary or plain. Life’s short and yes that’s very true. Some days I hope I’m not me, I hope I’m you. Not a lot of people understand what I’m going through.  And when I try to explain, they think it’s something new. Not knowing I have had this illness for so long. The few that do understand tell me to be strong. If only it were that simple but I do try, God knows I try. And every time I lose, I watch a piece of me die.  But I know it’s only a matter of time before I’m whole again and find all the piece that’s mine”.
