During the Calabar Carnival 2017, I watched the various bands try to interpret the meaning slavery and how it is now coming back in the modern day with the Libyan slave markets where black Africans are sold off as slaves or organ mules and it was, to say the least disheartening. This was one of the costumes worn by the Freedom Band as they brought home this painful truth through performance art.
