The Profit Panel is an exquisite work of art depicting the market scene. This is one of two paintings by Emorhokpor focusing on a scene that is synonymous with most Nigerian cities, towns and villages. The underlying narrative is not obvious but to the discerning eye several strands come to the fore; on the left – politics and social (three women gossiping), centre and right – economic (traders waiting for customers and customers laden with goods on their way home). This painting can only be enjoyed if the viewer is able to comprehend the three sections that comprise the whole – the left, centre and right. And together all the segments tell the story of the dynamic Nigerian market scene.
