The title of the piece is a reference to a popular 90s cartoon called “The Power Puff Girls”. The Powerpuff Girls are a trio of sisters who were born with superpowers when their scientist father added an extra ingredient in the process of creating them. I found an interesting in how the cartoon acknowledged that girls can be more than “sugar, spice and everything nice” while the Nigeria society continues to wring out the “extra ingredient” in its girls.
