Sam Ovraiti was born in 1961 in Zaria Kaduna State.  He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) and a Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA) from Auchi Polytechnic and the University of Benin respectively.

Ovraiti is the current director of the Harmattan Workshop.  He is reputable in the contemporary art space in Nigeria as the most expressive watercolourist and a leading colour master.  His efforts in the area of watercolour and chalk pastel in the 1980’s popularised both materials as an acceptable painting medium within the art community in Nigeria.

Sam is honoured with several academic awards and national prizes.  He was committed as a lecturer and was instrumental in the training of young artists in Auchi Polytechnic from 1985 – 1993.

He is a deep and philosophical artist with passion in artistic research and experimentation.  This aspect has been heightened by his long-term relationship with Dr Bruce Onobrakpeya and the Harmattan Workshop.  He has continued to mentor young artists through active workshops and training.

Sam has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Nigeria and abroad. His paintings are well received all over the world. He is also the director of Sam Ovraiti Services and the founder of Artists Anchor Point (AAP). Sam is also a talk artist. He lives and works in Lagos as a practising studio artist.
