Umeh gives a sombre outlook to this painting.  A rural landscape and hamlet with huts, obviously made out of mud, dominates the scenery.  With very deep secondary colours, Umeh portrays a retiring community with an almost empty space bare a mother and child strolling home after a busy and long day in the farm or market.  The river in the fore ground and the trees behind provides a sense of tranquility, assurance of life and hope for this reclusive community.
