The painting is a panoramic view of a northern community.  The architecture depicts the historic Kano mud buildings and walls, the heritage of over 1,000 years and presumably one of the most impressive monuments in West Africa.  An entourage on horseback and on foot gathers in front of an obvious leader. The leadership structure of the north offers the Emir or the Sultan the recognition as the religious and traditional ruler to whom due allegiance is paid by their subjects.  This painting represents that loyalty and reverence the community renders to recognized authorities.
