Traditional inscriptions and writings dominate his outfit. These writings tell stories of ages past about a people, a community and their ways of life. Some of these stories persevere in unique ways in poetries, books, drawings and fabrics as seen in the painting. Also on the drummer’s shoulders are hung – three talking drums commonly used by griots and oral history/story tellers. These griots are embodiments of rich traditions and cultures, which are passed down to generations in form of music and folklore.
