Olaniyan connects people with the market environment.  This is the main subject matter in his paintings.  With abstract brush strokes of primary colours, he brings to focus the commerce, exchanges and interaction in a local market.

The market place is an important connecting platform for African local communities and producers who throng there to either buy or sell foodstuff and other domestic wares. Olaniyan also explores the architectural forms as seen in the background.  The buildings are unique and can be deduced to be structural forms and patterns seen in northern Nigeria.
