This work describes the artist’s Sympathetic side for females. It shows Sympathy but also shows great focus on the power of the feminine figure in society today. In this work the artist picks a female muse, Nigerian female musician; Dija, whom he believes could be an emblem of a fine, cultural and yet modern African woman. The artwork shows the oppression of the black people in general but also creates a perspective on how we can turn things around through the power of positive thinking. The whole painting (and title) is deeply inspired by Ntozake Shange. In summary, the artist tries to show that whether Black or Coloured (the names which the African people are commonly referred to as), we remain, beautiful people; fully empowering black culture through art.
