Umeh explores tradition and culture with an insight into the northern Nigerian festival of the Durbar. With a mix of both primary and secondary colours, he sets up a “royally” ambience in his painting.  The Durbar Festival is akin to the north and is especially hosted by the emir or the sultan during the turban succession rites.  The horse riders, who are usually bodyguards, minstrels and magicians, escort the new royal to the palace in pomp and pageantry.
