Ogunnusi has opted for an unusual colour for the subject matter but the point he makes is clear. The rooftops as always are compact and illustrated in blue and red. The horizon is golden and suggests a spectacular sunset. The overall impression for the discerning viewer is of a city engulfed in an inferno. Which reminds me of Dante’s Divine Comedy – the documentation is widely considered the preeminent work of Italian literature…the poem’s imaginative vision of the afterlife” is based on medieval perceptions and the inferno as an instrument of punishment in the afterlife.
