Umeh’s painting shows a prominent dance in Western Nigeria – the “Bata” dance.  This is a Yoruba dance tradition and culture associated with “Sango” because of the energetic nature of the dance. The painting shows athleticism, vigour and reflects more accurately the Yoruba cultural values and aesthetic perception.   The major attention in the painting is an exuberant dancer in “kembe” gyrating and displaying his dancing skills.
